Y Mabinogi – Strange Things

Y Mabinogi – Strange Things

bill and ted

It’s true.

It seems the moment I realised that I was only to focus on exploring and writing the story and songs for the First Branch of the Mabinogion (as I wrote about in this recent article) strange things began to happen. Dreams, strange synchronistic occurrences, big aha! moments, the melody to songs forming seemingly from out of nowhere, and a constant feeling of being observed and, in a very real way, guided.

As part of the Journey I’m creating an altar at home in my studio room dedicated to Arawn, Rhiannon, Pryderi and Pwyll, and Cerri is making me a bronze horse-head pendant in honour of Rhiannon. It looks like we will be heading to Wales during May to visit some of the places from the First Branch, and that week I’ll be focussed on completing the spoken word section of the album. Then I plan to have 6 songs intermingled with the spoken word at specific areas to draw us in deeper, and to also act as a musical score to the spoken word.

That’s the plan.

As they said in Stingray, anything can change in the next half hour, so we shall see.

But one thing is for sure – there is some interest in this from an altogether Other place, and I welcome that guidance.

  1. Can’t wait!!!! I wonder if I can share this with you. Made my first trip to Wales recently to see where my ancestors came from. This was a treat for my 40th birthday. While I was there I learned my father passed away. I am still devastated and processing this, but I had a real feeling that he was passing the family crown on to me in the land of my ancestors. Anything Welsh makes me feel so so connected to him right now. (and Im considering a Welsh dragon tattoo in honor or him). So can’t wait to hear your next album Damh! I feel like Im going into a new chapter of my life where looking back is the only way to move forward. Much love and light.

  2. Those of the Other worlds watch and listen closely my friend After all you are writing their story and every bard is a historian, a prophet and a herald and you are the Lord Bard (or is that Bard Lord?)

  3. I am looking forward to your new album very much indeed.
I will be going out of town to be with my daughter for Beltane. Your music will be the soundtrack of our visit.
    Blessings

  4. As a welsh pagan now living and working away from my homeland, i have a deep rooted sense of home, where ever i may travel i still feel connect to the land of my birth. Its a joy to know that you are revisiting the Mabinogion and interrupting it in your own style as Brads have done for centuries. I look forward with delight to the finished article and hope i enjoy it as much as your other work.
