Tales from the Road – Play until your fingers bleed!

Things have been so busy recently that I haven’t had time to keep up with my blog. But over the next few days I’ll be getting up to date with a few stories.

I’ve heard it said many times that you must suffer to learn, that guitarists have to play their instrument until their fingers bleed. I’ve managed to avoid that particular course of action. Well, that was until I played on stage with my good friends The Dolmen at the recent Anderida Gorsedd conference! I joined them for two songs, Raggle Taggle Gypsies and Witches Woe, and afterwards I noticed that I’d joined the ranks of guitar players who have bled for their art by opening a nice wound on my strumming index finger. I showed the audience, and I’m sure you can imagine the sympathy I received!

But when I opened the guitar case of my Ovation guitar for my next concert I saw that there hadn’t just been blood on my finger. I’d opened the cut and kept playing and there was blood spots on my guitar. Now that is seriously rock and roll! I think I’ll keep them there to remind me to use harder picks when I play on stage with those guys again – which will probably be this Saturday night at the Artemis Gathering!

  1. We wuz there and can confirm that you did indeed suffer for your art 🙂

If I had half the talent that you have I would be a very pleased. (do you give lessons)

The Anderida Gorsedd conference was a great day out for both of us and we will be attending next year.

The evening was amazing, I’ve never seen so much energy released in such a short space of time.

    Keep on rocking
