Frack off!

Life has conspired against me getting down to the anti-fracking demonstrations in Balcombe, Sussex, but this afternoon I am finally able to be there. I used to go to Balcombe and play in the woods as a child. I also used to go to the Ardingly Reservoir – one of the main sources of water for the area, that is just a mile or so from the drilling site.

This afternoon’s visit is not a happy return to a childhood stamping ground, but rather a way of supporting brave people in their fight against the madness of greed.

What can I do? Add myself to the numbers, add my voice by taking my bouzouki with me and playing Sons and Daughters (of Robin Hood) at the top of my voice!

If there is any doubt that fracking is a bad idea, watch this film.

  1. Lush cosmetics are campaigning about fracking at the moment.There is a petition to sign on their website. Fracking is just madness!

  2. Thanks Damh for spreading the word. Earth loving folk, Balcombe needs our support and our presence! Even if you can only make it there for an hour or two, you’ll be glad you did. For info on events at the site evry day see http://www.greatgasgala.org.uk/

  3. Go for it Damh. The true story Isn’t being told and this madness will become reality if we don’t make our voices heard.

  4. Thanks for going down there and standing up for the rights of the earth and those of us who don’t want to see her destroyed.
    Good fortune to everyone who is trying to stop this.

  5. Once again it’s a means to getting a finite energy resource quickly to make the corporations big money, with no concideration for future generations. Reduction of usage is what’s needed. So much for governments aiming to become “carbon neutral”. An example of the “leaders” of mankind having knowledge, but frack all Wisdom, or honouring our Mother/Home.

  6. A revolting idea supported by revolting people. Why else do you think that they want internet censorship? Not to protect your kids, more to stop ordinary people getting organised to fight back like the good folk in Balcombe are doing. Go Balcombe!

  7. Two of my favourite Native American quotes;

    “We must protect the forests for our children, grandchildren and children yet to be born. We must protect the forests for those who can’t speak for themselves such as the birds, animals, fish and trees.”

    “Treat the Earth well, it was not given to you by your Parents, it was loaned to you by your Children”

  8. Well done Damh – haven’t been able to get there but it’s in my heart and mind a lot and I’m involved in Somerset xxx

  9. It is so important the message is shared beautifully, eloquently, and inspirationally. It’s a time for reflection and responsibility. Hopefully more of those we connect with will simply understand that truth. Peaceful protest through fabulous words and music can make a difference. Soon justice and our beautiful planet that nourishes and sustains us and has to be looked after will not be abused for the profit of the few. We can’t eat money, and we can’t drink polluted water xx

  10. I see, so “they’re” pushing fracking outside the US (my home) as well. This is terrible and must be stopped!!
